20th Century Earthquakes in Southern California
20th Century Earthquakes in Southern California
This map shows the significant earthquakes that occurred during the 20th Century (1900-1999) in Southern California. Each earthquake is connected to the nearest major city using an analysis process called "nearest neighbor analysis." With the shaded relief map as the base map, you can easily see the mountainous and desert terrain that makes up Southern California.
A major city is defined as any city with a population of over 150,000 in 2000, except for Palm Springs, which is included due to its popularity as a tourist destination.
